It's time to elect your 2016-17 PTA Executive Board. A few candidates are incumbents and a few would be new faces to the board. Here are some short bios for those who would be new additions this coming year.
Vice President - Elementary School
- Jennifer Mason - Jennifer is a life-long Durham native and the mom of three
daughters. She has a rising 3rd grader, a rising kindergartener
and a toddler who will be a Viking in a few years. They have been blessed
to be a part of the Voyager community since their oldest was in
kindergarten. Her professional background is in finance, both corporate
and non-profit, however she has been a stay-at-home mom since 2013. Jennifer has enjoyed serving as a room parent for the past three school years and is currently co-chairing the Fundraising Committee. She hopes to continue
supporting the staff and other Voyager families by joining the Board.
Vice President - Middle School
- Michelle Fox - This is Michelle’s fifth year at Voyager Academy. She has two children. Her daughter, Bridget, is in 7th grade and her son, Andrew, is in 5th grade. She has volunteered as a room parent multi years, is a member of the hospitality team, and serves on the middle school Honor Roll committee and Room Parent committee. She and her family moved to Durham from Ohio seven years ago. An Environmental Scientist by training, Michelle is currently a preschool teacher at Duke Memorial Weekday School. Prior to Voyager Academy, Michelle served as secretary on the PTA board at her children’s elementary school. She also chaired the PTA’s fundraisers before winning the lottery at Voyager Academy. “I value the teachers, staff and community at Voyager Academy. I am excited about the upcoming year and look forward to the possibility of working with all of the wonderful families at the middle school.”
Vice President - High School
- Leslie Jewell, Leslie is currently serving as the VP Elementary School
- Beverly Williams - Beverly's students have been at Voyager for three years now; She has a son starting high school in August, a current 4th grader and a current 2nd grader. She has been a bookkeeper since 1998, using QuickBooks. She has an AAS in Accounting from Vance-Granville ('94) and an AAS in Paralegal Technology from DTCC ('91). She is currently the office manager/bookkeeper at CrossComm, Inc. and also the bookkeeper at Verified Studios, both located in downtown Durham.
